UPDATE 17 April 2008

Four years (!) since last Update on this page,
but Rascal has been reported on many times under the main Updates.

Interesting to see how beautifully he has matured into Veteran in the loving hands of June Minns.
At Crufts March 2008 he was Best Dog Veteran,
at a Match show later in March, to which all Whippets were invited, who had won CC's or res. CC's during 2007, he was Best In Match
and at the Whippet Club Championshipe Show April 5 he was Best Veteran in Show.
BOS Veteran to Rascal at this show was Ch Collooney Silver Silas,
the dam of our Ch Collooney Winner Takes It All, who is sired by Rascal.

From Pauline Oliver, Spyanfly Whippets, we received the pictures below.

Rascal at Crufts 2008

The Whippet Club Championship Show April 5, 2008
BIS - Ch Blue Streak Belle Of The Ball, Dog CC - Elmanash Major General
(far left),
BIS Puppy - Peperone Pure Gold, BIS Veteran - Ch Airescot Ruby Rascal
Bitches were judged by Magnus Hagstedt, Sweden, dogs by Mr B. Newsham, England.

UPDATE 23 March 2004

At Crufts Rascal was placed second in the big Open Dog class,
judged by Marion Spavin.
The picture below of June Minns and Rascal in the ring
was taken by Lisa Johansson and kindly sent to me.

UPDATE 10 December 2003

At the Whippet Club of Wales breed specialty December 6th
Rascal won Open Class and the Res. CC. The CC was won by
Fullerton Heavenly Dreamer from Limit Class
(Ch Fullerton Dream Mover ex. Ch Fullerton Agile Mover).

Surprisingly enough official pictures never seem to be taken of the winners
at dog shows in England. They are just given their cards or rosettes
and leave the ring. If you want to get a picture, you have to grab
the owners of the winning dogs and move them to a place where
a picture can be taken. Below is the result of my photo efforts with
the two winning males at this show.
To see pictures of Rascal's BIS-winning progeny, go to his progeny page.

UPDATE 25 September 2003

Critiques from two more shows in England have now appeared
in the English dog papers:

From Paignton Championship Show, where Anne MacDonald (Mabrooka Salukis)
gave Rascal his third and qualifying CC with BOB, she wrote:

"Open Dog (13 entered, 2 absent): Fabulous class. 1 Runsten's Can/Am Ch
Airescot Ruby Rascal, pale r/w/br/, out of the top drawer, real class act in every respect,
excellent head and eye, clean neck & shoulder, sound legs & feet, excellent front,
strong well angulated rear, in superb condition, moving with ease
showing correct reach & drive. CC, his 3rd, & BOB.

From the Hound Association Championship Show, where Pauline Oliver
(Spyanfly) judged dogs and Roma Wright-Smith (Silkstone) bitches.
They judged BOB together without using the refereee. Pauline Oliver wrote:

"Open Dog (12 entered, 1 absent): 1 Runsten's Can/Am Ch Airescot Ruby Rascal,
light almost lemon br/w dog, he came, he saw, he conquered!
Well done, he makes a beautiful picture standing with everything in proportion
& running smoothly from head to neck & gliding over the shoulders, back & loin,
his good angulations giving him the ability to stand over a good amount of ground,
has masculinity without coarseness, he is a very easy & sound mover,
keeping his topline all the while. CC & BOB."

UPDATE 3 August

2 August at the Houndshow 2003 Rascal won his fifth CC and third BOB.
The 290 entries were judged by Pauline Oliver (Spyanfly), dogs,
and Roma Wright-Smith (Silkstone), bitches.
Best bitch was Meakin's Cornstalk Sweetheart of Oakbark,
the res. CC:s went to Lowglen Special Reserve JW and Hubbestad Mustique resp.

UPDATE 22 July

11 July at South Wales Kennel Ass. Rascal gained his fourth CC,
judged by Karen Charman (Molecat Whippets).

Her critique of Rascal as well as Patsy Gilmour's
have now been published in the British dog papers and are quoted below.

Patsy Gilmour's critique on Whippets after judging them at Blackpool started
with an interesting overall assessment of the breed' s present situation in England.
"It was just a year since I last judged the breed; such a lovely entry. I am sorry
to have to say that for a breed which has a bevy of so many beautiful bitches
that you are spoilt for choice in many classes, the dog entry is a struggle,
and I dread to think where the sires of the future are going to come from.
The main problem is short, straight upper arms, to me a very serious fault in the breed.
It must be there for all to see, and if we carry on the way we are going
the perfect Whippet front is going to be lost forever. I know the ground was
a bit hard and spiky, but it did not bother the good movers..."

About Rascal in Open Dog, after having awarded him the dog CC, Patsy Gilmour wrote:
"Runsten's Am/Can Ch Airescot Ruby Rascal, lemon/br/w in the most
immaculate condition, gleamed in the sun, lovely head and neck, correct depth
and spring of rib, good length of loin, strong quarters, fabulous coat and skin,
moved over the ground, very well handled. It was his day."

Karen Charman wrote these fantastic comments on Rascal:
"Runsten's Am/Can Ch Airescot Ruby Rascal, g/br/white trim. Loved this dog,
has such an air about him, not cocky show off but just a calm presence. He is for me
a stunning shape, just had all the bits I was looking for. Head shape is powerful
but not domed or overdone, eyes are a soft oval, ears fine and neat, neck long
and strong, proudly arched. Front just right, well filled, elbows well back under
body. Straight front legs, excellent neat feet, well knuckled, short nails.
Brisket deep, ribs carried well back and well sprung, loin strong, long tail
set on well, broad thighs and well defined second thighs, which come
with a well bent stifle, hocks well let down. He covers the ground standing
and moves with a free and easy style. CC."

UPDATE 30 June

At only his seventh show in England Rascal gained his third CC and BOB,
this time at Paignton Championship Show June 28,
judged by Anne Macdonald (Mabrooka salukis),
and again expertly handled  and presented by June Minns.
Reserve to Rascal was Loroli Fancy That For Derohan JW.
The bitch CC, also her third, was won by Bayard Islamist at Dumbriton,
and reserve to her was Marchpast La Diva at Courthill.

What we didn't know until today is that Rascal's foreign titles,
received in full in Canada and America after his second birthday,
has qualified him also for his Scandinavian titles,
based on the 8 CC:s he won before leaving for Canada in 2001.

UPDATE  23 June 2003

Rascal's success in England has not been reported here on his page,
only among the Updates, so we had better repeat it here in short.
In his six shows so far in England he has already won two CC:s,
handled by June Minns, and two reserve CC:s, handled by myself
The CC:s were won at Bath under Molly Head and at Blackpool under Patsy Gilmour.
The reserves at WELKS under Ferelith Somerfield and at Southern Counties
under Dennis Meakin.

After WELKS Ferelith Hamilton wrote in her critique of Rascal:
"A stallion of a dog, made on excellent lines, particularly good quarters,
in good condition with strength & well muscled, pleasing topline."

Molly Head's and Dennis Meakin's critiques have just appeared in the dog papers:

Molly Head wrote about her Open Dog class: "Heartbraking class to judge,
full of top quality dogs & I hated leaving any of them out. CC and BOB,
Runsten's Can/Am Ch Airescot Ruby Rascal, g/f/br with white trim, total showman
with real attitude, elegant neck, well laid shoulder, good length of loin,  well let down
hocks, covers the ground standing and moving, handled to get the best out of him."

Dennis Meakin wrote about Rascal: "Flashy pale br/w, would like to take home
with me, lovely quality dog, just got it."

The picture below was taken a couple of weeks ago by John Tiranti
and is a good proof of the excellent condition, in which Rascal is kept by June Minns,
and how much he has matured since the picture above was taken 1½ years ago.

By now Rascal has sired three litters in England
and more are on their way.

His first bitch was Hubbestad Femme Fatale (2 CC's)
(Ch Paris Panther ex. Hubbestad Silver Lining)
She had 5 dogs, 3 bitches.

Second litter was ex. Craigavad Mona Lisa with Siouxline
(Ch Rum Punch of Falconcrag ex. Craigavad Crystal)
She had 3 dogs, 3 bitches.

Third litter was ex. Collooney Silver Silas (2 CC's)
(Ch Rum Punch of Falconcrag ex. Collooney Silver Lace)
She had 1 dog, 7 bitches.

UPDATE 2 March 2003

We just received the pictures below taken in Florida in January
after two of Rascal's Major wins.

Through all the circuit handled by Debbie Butt the first picture shows Rascal after winning
one of his Majors under judge Keke Kahn, the second picture after winning
his fourth Major and his champion title, judged by Whippet specialist David Hiltz.

UPDATE 22 January, 2003

Rascal finished his year in Canada as #1 Whippet
having won 5 times Best in Show All Breeds and 13 Hound Groups.
He was living as a loved house dog with Suzi Francis
and was always handled by John Griffith.

During his year in Canada Rascal was never in the US.
We thought it a shame not to have Rascal shown a couple of times
in America before his return to Europe mid January,
so when Debbie Butt offered to bring him with her to the Florida Circuit
in the beginning of January we said yes, please,
as that was the time we had planned to bring "Rory", Jazz Fest, back to Debbie.

We had hoped, of course, that Rascal might win a couple of points
towards an American title, but we could hardly believe it when he,
thanks to Debbie's skilful handling, managed to win his title in six shows,
four of them with 3 point Majors and five BW.

Just as happy as Rory was to see Debbie again, whom he at least had met as recently as last Summer
at the Skokloster/Tammsvik shows in Sweden, just as happy were Rascal and I to meet again after more than a year's separation. It was wonderful to find that he was the same sweet personality
as when he left Sweden. We spent two days and one night together, before we had to say
goodbye again when Rascal was shipped to England January 20th. Due to the Swedish rabies regulations a dog coming from the US must still spend six months somewhere in Europe
before being allowed into Sweden. Since December 11th American dogs are allowed
into England on Pet Passports, just as they have been from Europe for some time.

As Rascal had been vaccinated and blood tested before he left Sweden and had been given all necessary boosters, he met with all the British requirements and was thus probably

one of the first dogs from the US to enter Great Britain on Pet Passport.

Rascal arrived safely in England and is already happily settled with June Minns (Juneric Whippets), who has been kind enough to welcome him to her home
as a house dog. He will stay with June until he is allowed back into Sweden,
which might be 6 months, possibly less, if the Swedish Agricultural Authorities decide to follow suit with England and open the Swedish borders for American dogs on the same conditions as for dogs from the European countries.

UPDATE 27 August

We just received this picture from Rascal's latest BIS-win in Canada,
as always handled by John Griffith.

UPDATE 6 May

May 3rd Rascal won his second All Breeds Best in Show in Canada,
this time judged by Dave Patterson.

UPDATE 4 April

A couple of pictures just arrived, proving Rascal's successful career
in Canada so far, always expertly handled by John Griffith.
Until now Rascal has won five Hound Groups and one Best in Show.
The picture below was taken at the Credit Valley show, where he won
the Hound Group, judged by Laurence "Bud" Havestock, Canada,
and then BIS, judged by Donald Fitzsimmons, Canada.

UPDATE 19 February

Great news from Canada, where Rascal has made a flying start
to his show career.
This weekend he not only gained his canadian title,
but also won two BOB and one Group-3.
We just received this snapshot from ringside, which shows how well
he's already responding to his clever handler John Griffith.

UPDATE 21 December

At the Stockholm International show December 16 Rascal won his 8th Scandinavian CC
and was placed second best male, this time judged by Barbara Wilton-Clark.

December 18 he took off for Toronto where he will be staying for a year
with Suzi Francis, the owner or co-owner of several top winning Whippets.
Rascal will be handled in Canada and the US by John Griffith,
known as Canada's number one whippet handler.
By now Rascal is happily settled in the house with Suzi's bitch "Amber",
Am Can Ch Riverchase Echo of Laughter (Ch Sporting Fields Jazz Fest
ex. the famous Ch Antares Ambridge Rose, "Tickle").

We know that Rascal will have a super life and wish him good luck
with his temporary owner and handler.

UPDATE 26 November

18 November Rascal wins CC and BOB at Swedish Sighthound Specialty
in Gothenburg, judged by Arne Foss, Paper Moon Whippets, Norway.
He also wins BIS Youngster, judged by Sighthound Specialist Kari Engh, Norway
and BIS-4, judged by Sighthound Specialist Stephen Whealer, Australia.

24 November Sighthound Specialist Espen Engh is judging Whippets
at the Norwegian KC International show in Hamar and gives Rascal
the CC and CACIB and makes him best male.

Until now Rascal has won 7 CC's (four in Sweden, two in Norway
and one in Denmark), which would have made him a Nordic Champion,
had he reached the age of 24 months, but he is still only 19 months old,
so has to wait for his titles.

UPDATE 5 November

Rascal wins his fifth CC from Youth Class plus res. CACIB,
this time in Herning, Denmark, judged by C. Fernandez-Renau, Spain.
Best male and BOB was the almost nine year old Danish bred
Ch Knak Around and Around, a beautiful whippet and a grandson
of our beloved Ch Statuesque Personalised, who is also the sire,
from frozen semen, of our young bitch A. Royal Occasion, winning the CC on the day.
Thus quite a family affair!

of the whole weekend was Hjortronblommans Gin Kelly.

UPDATE 3 August

This year's shows at Skokloster/Tammsvik were a great success for Rascal.
Of the 75 males entered under Roger Stock, Rascal, in spite of his young age,
was placed number three, and the following day, when 69 males were judged
by Ingela Kyrklund, Rascal was fourth best male.

Below is a ringside snapshot of Rascal taken by Anita Benneskog a week earlier.
Hopefully we'll get pictures from Skokloster to publish later.
